Fishing Week

This year I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Stone-Wigg family fishing week in Grantown –on-Spey. A ritual gathering that has had unwavering attendance from the Stone-Wigg family for many years. The event takes place the first week of August without fail. The Symes, Stone-wiggs, Mobbs and Associates make up the numbers for the week.
The week is usually scheduled around rods, tee-off times, walks and meals. And his chance for relaxation away from busy lives. The family fish for Salmon and Trout on the Tulcan Estate. They rent the hut for a week and take turns fishing the pools up and down the river. When they are not fishing they are golfing, when they are not golfing they are drinking. Grantown Golf Course is the preferred course, Wine is the preferred alcoholic drink.
I spent two successive long weekends at Grantown this year, following on from Alan and Jane’s 25th Wedding Anniversary at Gleneagles. I had a great time. I had two games of golf, some hill running with Aussie Jamie, an attempt at fly casting and some really nice meals out. It was a chance to finally meet Kim’s extended family and put some faces to names.
